Development Associate

Job Purpose
The Development Associate is responsible for contributing to SpringSpirit’s Development effort by planning and overseeing all SpringSpirit fundraising events, cultivating a portfolio of donor relationships, and serving as the primary contact of foundation relationships.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Philanthropic Relationships
- Develop and enhance relationships between SpringSpirit and the Greater Houston philanthropic community
- Expand and steward philanthropic foundation relationships through cultivation, grant writing and grant renewals
- Work with SpringSpirit staff to ensure that grant standards are met and required follow-up reports are filed in a timely manner
- Participate, as needed, in SpringSpirit events that create an opportunity to cultivate relationships with potential donors and supporters
- Manage the annual “Breakfast for Champions” breakfast
- Support, as necessary, the Breakfast Chairs/Co-Chairs and other event coordinators
- Provide all coordination with event venue, audio/visual support and event photographer/videographer
- Work with contacts to obtain keynote speaker
- Develop all event material and logistics (e.g., RSVP process for invitees)
- Maintain and manage event files including underwriter and invitation lists, seating arrangements, etc.
- Manage the overall event budget
- Develop and manage other fundraising events that support SpringSpirit by interacting with special event chairpersons, volunteers, and donors.
- Contribute to the development and presentation of the annual department plan and budget
- Communicate actual and expected budget variances to the Director of Development
- Develop and implement streamlined data and organized processes to provide weekly reports
- Operate within the annual budget
- Work with staff and volunteers to enhance/develop collaborations between programmatic goals and funding for such goals
- Generate and propose ideas to contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic goals and objectives related to fundraising activities
- Contribute to SpringSpirit’s “Whole Child” Initiative, directly stewarding and monitoring a subset of SpringSpirit participants
- Present a positive, professional and Christian manner that builds community and partner connections
- Embrace SpringSpirit core values and mission
- Propose ideas to contribute to the development and implementation of the strategic goals and objectives of SpringSpirit fundraising activities
- Attend ongoing training and professional development
- Join philanthropic association(s) that enhance SpringSpirit’s development program and are within the professional development budget (Association of Fundraising Professionals, etc.)
- Interact with development professionals to bring best practices to SpringSpirit development activities
- Leverage assigned resources in an efficient and effective manner
- Be willing to work some evenings/weekends
- Mentor a SpringSpirit program participant
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3 to 5 years of experience in Development or Advancement (preference is with a local non-profit organization) activities with the most recent 2 years in direct fundraising
- A network of Houston-based philanthropic relationships
- Experience in the planning and execution of large-scale donor events (500+ people), strongly desired
- Demonstrated strong leadership, management and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communicator with highly developed interpersonal skills
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and be organized in order to meet deadlines and objectives
- Articulate, professional demeanor with self-confidence and initiative
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and e*Tapestry or other donor management systems (e.g., Raiser’s Edge)
- Willingness to step into other (non-Development) roles and responsibilities as mission needs may dictate
- Ability to work in a dynamic, entrepreneurial and creative team environment to achieve organizational program objectives
- Team player who can work with staff and volunteers and enhance/develop collaborations with community partners
- Spiritually grounded in the Christian tradition with a strong personal faith and willingness to adopt the SpringSpirit Faith Statement
